A few details with more to come…
Where is the Samish Crest Open Space?
The Samish Crest is an open space composed of public and private property with forested and clear cut areas surrounded by residential neighborhoods in south Bellingham, Washington in the Pacific Northwest.
The goal of this project is to give a voice to the Crest as it is now and what it means to the people who cherish it.
Forestories is a participatory mapping and documentation project culminating in a place-based memoir.
Beginning fall 2026 temporary leave-no-trace trail logs will be placed throughout the Crest to invite people to contribute place names, experiences and other artifacts illustrating what they love about the Samish Crest.
A love letter to a place
The stories, visual artifacts and other memorabilia gathered will be compiled into a limited-edition book. Please reach out if you are interested or keep an eye on adjacent Little Lending Libraries Summer 2027.
I love the Crest, too! Can I help?
Stay tuned for ways to get involved with this project. Interested in helping steward trails? Reach out to the Samish Neighborhood Association’s Greenways committee.
